On Monday May 10, 2010, The GOD'S CHILD Project kicked off the Help Children Dream Campaign to raise money for the children we care for and educate in Guatemala, El Salvador, Malawi Africa, India, and the United States.
One of the favorite sayings of our Founder and International Director, Patrick Atkinson is:
" We need to teach our children to dream because with dreams they have something to look forward to.And only when they have something to look forward to do they have a reason to respect natural, spiritual, and human law."
It is through the support of people like you that poverty stricken children are able to look beyond daily survival and focus on the hopes and dreams they have for a future.
Anderson
Anderson came to the Dreamer Center in April 2010.With his father dead and his mother serving a 50 year prison sentence, Anderson has been living on the streets in Antigua, Guatemala for the past 4 years shining shoes to survive. At 9 years old, he came to us because he "wants to study and doesn't want to live in the streets anymore".We placed him with a foster family and he began attending school as part of our program.
Scared, alone, and unaccustomed to a structured family lifestyle, Anderson ran away from his foster family. One of our staff members found him at the homeless shelter.A camera crew was filming a documentary at the homeless shelter that day.Anderson watched with fascination, and decided at that moment his dream is to become a cameraman. Now he talks of "Being somebody important someday".He has agreed to continue going to school and stay with his foster family so that he can work towards his goal.
The psychological damage from what he has seen and lived through on the streets will take time to heal.As part of our program Anderson will now have access to all the support he will need growing up.Things like educational support, medical and dental care, a psychologist, food and foster family. He will be with our program as long as he continues his education, including university studies. He now has something he never had before, a dream and a way to achieve his dream.
We are asking you on behalf of the children to consider making a donation today that would bring a future full of dreams to children just like Anderson.By giving children opportunities they would not otherwise have, the world becomes a better place, one child at a time.Make a donation today and Help Children Dream!!
The "Help Children Dream" Summer Fundraising Campaign is taking place through June 30, 2010.Our purpose is to raise money to support the children that utilize the many programs we provide.
